Rep. Matt Gaetz has praised Republican Sen. J.D. Vance for blocking new political appointees to the Justice Department over the Biden administration’s targeting of former President Donald Trump.
During his “Firebrand” podcast on Thursday, Gaetz said Vance was on a parallel track with Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who is holding up new appointees to the Defense Department so the Pentagon does not become “an abortion travel agency into perpetuity.”
In Vance’s case, said Gaetz, the Ohio senator is “not allowing the DOJ to repopulate the swamp with more vermin.”

As the Tampa Free Press reported earlier this week, Vance accused the Justice Department of “trying to throw the political rival of the president of the United States in prison.”
“We are living in a banana republic, where the president is using his Department of Justice to go after his chief political rival, the person he will appear on the ballot with in about a year,” Vance said in a floor speech.
“If the Department of Justice will use these nominations for law instead of politics, I am happy to end this whole policy. But so long as the Department of Justice uses its nominations and uses its personnel to go after its political opponents, from the president of the United States on down, I will object.”
On his podcast, Gaetz, a Fort Walton Beach Republican, said Vance has his full support.
“That’s what actual accountability for the Biden administration looks like,” said Gaetz, “not allowing them to continue to weaponize the government against we the people.”

“Far too many in this town are willing to send out the mean tweets and the press releases,” Gaetz added. Yet, “very few are willing to show the courage of a J.D. Vance of a Tommy Tuberville.”
“We stand with them, and we know they stand with us.”
