Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) appeared on Newsmax’s The Record With Greta Van Susteren to discuss the next steps in the investigation into the Biden family, as well as claims that Hunter Biden has been secretly filming a documentary about his life with the help of a wealthy benefactor.
Newsmax’s host, Greta Van Susteren, questioned Donalds on the matter, expressing concerns about the potential ‘October surprise’ and the Biden family’s lack of opportunity to respond.
The Timing of the Impeachment Inquiry
Van Susteren raised the question of timing, suggesting that the Republicans had been sitting on the impeachment inquiry for two years and that it should be left to the voters to decide. She expressed concerns about the possibility of an October surprise, where the Bidens would have no opportunity to respond or act.
To address these concerns, Donalds explained that the investigation had been ongoing throughout 2023, requiring extensive time to untangle the alleged corruption scheme involving the Biden family. He noted the challenges faced due to the lack of cooperation from the White House and other agencies.

Donalds argued that the media’s bias and tendency to cover up for the Bidens necessitated a clear argument from House Republicans, justifying the need to move forward with the inquiry.
Donalds defended the inquiry, highlighting the Biden family’s alleged lies to the American people and emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation.
“Well, and that’s where our investigation is going to lead us. We already have evidence of the President of the United States, taking money through his son and through his brother. That is bribery in and of itself. Now we’re going to continue that. That’s why we have to do that last couple depositions, we have about nine or ten depositions to go,” said Donalds.
“That’s why there’s going to be another couple of hearings. Maybe one, two, maybe potentially three more hearings. But we’re going to do our job. We’re not going to speed it up because of politics. We’re not going to slow it down because of politics. We’re going to investigate, which, in my opinion, is the biggest scandal in the history of our country, because the person sitting in the Oval Office, knowingly allowed his son and his brother to operate as unregistered foreign agents,” said Donalds.
The Biden Family’s Opportunity to Respond
Van Susteren insisted on the importance of fair play, stating that the Biden family should have the opportunity to respond to the allegations. Donalds countered by asserting that the Biden family had the chance to comment at any time but had instead chosen to lie to the American people.
Donalds said Joe Biden’s leadership in misleading the public and emphasized that being the president’s son did not entitle Hunter Biden to special treatment and argued that the facts spoke for themselves and that the investigation would continue without speeding up or slowing down the process.
“Well a couple things. First of all Greta, the Biden family has had an opportunity to comment at any step along the way. All they’ve done is lie to the American people led by Joe Biden and everybody else. Number two, we were prepared to actually depose Hunter Biden a couple of weeks ago,” said Donalds.

“He decided to do a stunt for his documentary I guess, as opposed to honoring a Congressional subpoena. Something I would add: Every American citizen has a responsibility and an obligation to adhere to. You don’t get special treatment because you are the president’s son. Those are the facts. So we’re going to do our job. We’re not going to speed it up or slow it down. We’re not Jack Smith over here. We’re not playing politics. We are going through the process of investigating this family and we are going to continue to do that work,” said Donalds.
House Republicans have centered their impeachment inquiry into President Biden on Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings, alleging that the president benefited financially from his son’s influence peddling.
The White House has dismissed the inquiry as a partisan charade, saying there is no substantial proof.
Newsmax, the conservative cable news channel, has been recognized for its support of former President Trump and conservative politicians.
Greta Van Susteren, who previously worked at CNN and Fox News, joined Newsmax in 2022. As a host on the channel, she has continued to question the timing and fairness of the House GOP impeachment inquiry into President Biden, prompting discussions and debates among viewers.
