In a positive development for Florida’s coastal waters, the red tide organism, Karenia brevis, was not detected in any samples collected statewide over the past week.
This encouraging news was reported in the latest Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) red tide status update.
Satellite imagery continues to be used to monitor both nearshore and offshore conditions, and no fish kills or respiratory irritation suspected to be linked to red tide were reported in the past week.

Forecasts suggest a net western-northwestern movement of surface waters and a net eastern-southeastern transport of subsurface waters in most areas over the next few days.
The next comprehensive status report will be released on Friday, August 30th.
This positive news offers a welcome respite for Florida’s beaches and marine life, but continued vigilance and monitoring remain crucial in managing the potential threat of red tide blooms.
