The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has taken a step to further protect the threatened oceanic whitetip shark.
At its September meeting, the FWC approved classifying this shark as a prohibited species within Florida state waters. This aligns state regulations with federal ones, promoting conservation and supporting international efforts to rebuild the population.
