State regulators authorized a settlement on Tuesday that will result in a $5 million refund to Florida Power & Light customers for “replacement” power bills caused by nuclear plant outages.
The Florida Public Service Commission approved the settlement struck between FPL and the state Office of Public Counsel, which defends customers in utility disputes.

It is the result of unplanned outages at FPL’s Turkey Point and St. Lucie nuclear facilities between 2020 and 2022.
In addition to the $5 million credit, Public Counsel Walt Trierweiler stated that the settlement will help customers by improving the functioning of nuclear units.
“The outcome is a win-win for the customers and the utility,” he told reporters.
