The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) announced the death of a 3.5-year-old male Florida panther on December 10, 2024. The panther was struck and killed by a vehicle on Johnston Road in Hardee County.
Vehicle collisions remain a significant threat to Florida panthers. The FWC urges motorists to be cautious, especially in areas where panthers are known to roam.

Slowing down and adhering to posted speed limits can help protect these endangered animals.
To support Florida panther conservation, residents can purchase a “Protect the Panther” license plate. Proceeds from these license plates directly fund FWC’s research and management efforts.
If you encounter an injured, sick, or deceased panther, please report it to the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922).
