A 2-year-old child was transported to the hospital Monday evening after the grandmother noticed the child becoming lethargic after receiving candy from Jessica Martinez.
Martinez had left the property and when contacted by phone told the grandparents of the child that her “hands were dirty in fentanyl.”
Deputies arrived on the scene and gave the child Narcan, which reversed the symptoms. The child was transported to the hospital for observation and later released.
Martinez had a prior active warrant for possession of a controlled substance and deputies located her at her residence.

After she was placed under arrest, Martinez stated her hands were covered in fentanyl when she fed the child pieces of candy.
She also told the deputy fentanyl is her “drug of choice” and she had taken it a few hours prior to contact with the child.
Martinez was charged with child neglect and taken to the Putnam County Jail. She was held without bond due to previous charges of failing to appear in court.
