A Florida mom and dad have been arrested and both of their children have been taken into custody by DCF after their 4-year-old girl was found naked in a neighbor’s yard.
On Wednesday, July 28, 2022, at approximately 1:13 pm, the Vero Beach Police Department responded to 2206 18th St. in regards to a young child that wandered into the homeowner’s yard.
The child was reported to be unclothed and unattended by any parent or guardian.
When officers arrived on the scene, they were able to make contact with the young child and the homeowner. Additional witnesses in the area were able to point out that the child was seen leaving the residence at 2156 18th St. approximately forty-five minutes earlier by herself.
Officers quickly made contact with Michael and Chrystal Slosson.
Michael and Chrystal Slosson identified themselves as the parents of the child. Also, inside the residence was a 9-year-old child. Both parents explained to officers that the four-year-old child must have escaped through a bedroom window after they placed her down for a nap.
While speaking with Michael and Chrystal Slosson, officers and detectives on the scene were able to smell strong odors of urine and feces coming from within the residence.
Officers saw trash covering the living areas, kitchen, and bedrooms and feces on the walls through the front entrance and the windows of the residence.
According to investigators, it was clear that the living conditions were deplorable and not suitable for children.

Officers notified the Florida Department of Children and Families, who responded to the residence. DCF and detectives conducted a walk thru of the residence. It was noted that the walls and floors of the entire residence were covered in dirt, trash, and fecal matter.
The bedroom mattresses that the children slept on were soiled and there was fecal matter on the floors. The kitchen of the residence was covered in dirt and dirty dishes. The inside of the refrigerator was covered in mold and it appeared to have no edible food.
DCF investigators and detectives deemed the residence to be hazardous to anyone living there. The combined investigation revealed both Michael and Chrystal Slosson failed to provide each of their two children with the proper care and supervision to maintain the children’s physical and mental health.
Michael and Chrystal Slosson were arrested by the Vero Beach Police Department at their residence and are facing two charges of Child Neglect each. Michael and Chrystal Slosson were booked into the Indian River County jail and are being held on $10,000.00 bond each.
DCF has taken custody of both the four-year-old and nine-year-old child.
