A 41-year-old Florida woman has been arrested in the deaths of her two children, ages 3 and 5, after officers responded to repeated hang-up 911 calls from her apartment where they found their tied-up bodies.
Police say Odette Lysse Joassaint, 41, told police, “Come get them, I don’t want them anymore” when they arrived at her apartment on Tuesday night.
Police found the 3-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl on a bed, where their arms, legs, and neck were tied up.
They tried to resuscitate the children until Fire Rescue crews arrived and pronounced the children dead.
Joassaint, 41, has been charged with two counts of murder.
“Officers located to find out what was going on when they found a female that appeared to be irate or going through a crisis. Officers looked inside the apartment, where the calls were coming from and observed two minor children that appeared to be unresponsive. Fire rescue was called to the scene and they declared that both children were deceased,” Vega told WSVN.
The godmother of the children told WSVN that the woman has mental health issues, and that she was “begging” to adopt both children.
On Wednesday morning, a man who said he was the father of the children, told CBS Miami he doesn’t know why Joassaint would kill their children.
He held up pictures of the children. “I can’t talk to you,” he said. “The police told me, the police talked to me in the house but, I don’t know what to say.”
A friend of the family, Darlene Petion, told WSVN she was in shock.
“They was little sweet, happy children. I love these kids so much. I can’t believe she do that because I’m always talking to her, how she take care of the kids, you know, I can’t believe she do that,” said Petion.
