A 33-year-old Florida mom is facing aggravated manslaughter charges after police say her 9-month-old baby died from an opioid overdose.
According to police, on Oct. 12, 2023, Ocala police officers responded to Advent Health about an unresponsive 9-month-old child who was later pronounced deceased.
At the time, the cause of death was unclear. However, the child’s mother, Kacy Kincaid, had 5 grams of Fentanyl in her possession, police say.

When the detective attempted to interview Kincaid, police say she appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and could not have a conversation.
A search warrant for a sample of her blood to be tested and then took her to jail for a felony trafficking charge.
Police later received a report from the Medical Examiner’s Office indicating that the child’s death was caused by Fentanyl, methamphetamine, and xylazine toxicity.

Police say Kincaid’s blood sample also contained Fentanyl, along with other substances.
The 5 grams of Fentanyl found in Kincaid’s possession was tested and showed the presence of the same Xylazine compound that was found in the child’s blood during the autopsy.
On January 24, 2024, police arrested Kincaid and charged her with aggravated manslaughter of a child.
