A federal judge has rescheduled a crucial hearing regarding Florida’s Medicaid ban on transgender healthcare for November, according to a recent court order. The hearing, originally set for September, will now take place several months later.
In 2022, Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration implemented a rule barring Medicaid coverage for transgender treatments like hormone therapy and puberty blockers.
The rule sparked immediate legal action from LGBTQ+ advocates on behalf of transgender adults and minors who rely on Medicaid for necessary healthcare.

In 2022, a lawsuit challenged the state’s new rule barring Medicaid coverage for transgender healthcare. The lawsuit was filed by two transgender adults and the parents of two transgender minors who rely on Medicaid.
In September 2022, a judge initially ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, blocking the enforcement of the ban. However, the state of Florida appealed the decision, leading to the upcoming hearing.
The hearing will take place in Atlanta during the week of November 18, 2024.
