A 28-year-old Florida man jumped into a river to avoid authorities after a multiple-county pursuit wasn’t going quite the way he intended.
Fox 35 in Orlando first reported on 28-year-old Oscar Dominique Leonides’ swim on Saturday after a pursuit in a stolen truck out of Orange County.
According to reports, the pursuit started with an Orange County Sheriff’s Office helicopter tracking the stolen truck, driven by Leonides, when the man entered Seminole County.
Deputies in Seminole County used ‘stop sticks’ to get the man to stop, but say the truck kept on speeding and evading law enforcement.

According to Fox 35, deputies successfully used ‘stop sticks’ on SR-514 and as the truck came to a stop, Leonides jumped into the St. Johns River.
Authorities say the man was in the water for about an hour prior to being taken into custody.
Deputies located methamphetamine and fentanyl in the stolen vehicle.
Leonides was booked into the Seminole County Jail on multiple charges and warrants including the high-speed chase, drugs, burglary, and driving on a revoked license. His first court appearance is scheduled on November 22, 2022, at 1:30 pm.
