A 40-year-old Florida man was taken into custody by police after he allegedly retrieved his firearm during a youth football game after a parent from the opposing team said their son was “better than his.”
According to a probable cause affidavit, Leesburg Police responded to Leesburg High School on September 30 at 6:46 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of a man carrying a gun on campus and menacing people.
The suspect, identified by police as Quan Isom, allegedly attempted to flee in a gray Dodge pickup vehicle. However, officers arrived in time to conduct a traffic stop in the parking lot of the school.
The police instructed Isom and his wife to exit the vehicle. His wife exited the vehicle, complied with police commands, and reported that Isom was armed. Isom allegedly argued with police and threatened to kill the K9 on the site. Upon exiting the vehicle, he allegedly defied the police’s orders to get on the ground, so he was “eventually escorted to the ground and detained.”

According to the affidavit, Isom’s wife told police that they attended the game because their son plays Pop Warner football, a youth division. The event occurred concurrently with the Leesburg High School homecoming. Isom allegedly argued with parents from the opposing team, and one of them “made a remark about their son being better than his, which upset the defendant.”
Spectators reportedly observed Isom walk back to his vehicle while retrieving the weapon and placing it in his waistband. Subsequently, the parents escaped the scene.
Police stated in the affidavit that Isom “carelessly and openly displayed the firearm during the school-sanctioned events of homecoming and the Pop Warner football game.” According to reports, Isom’s wife “rushed to him and urged him to calm down and get in the truck.”
According to his wife, she instructed Isom to position the gun beneath the driver’s seat. The police corroborated her claim that Isom was drunk after discovering empty beer bottles and whiskey bottles. Additionally, the police discovered a revolver that was “ready to fire due to the location of the rounds in the cylinder.”
Isom has 11 prior convictions, so he is prohibited by law from possessing a firearm.
Isom was booked into the Lake County Jail on accusations of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm on school property, carelessly displaying a weapon, and resisting without violence, according to the Lake County Jail records. His bail is set at $40,000 dollars.
