A Florida man landed behind bars after being warned to clear up sexual offender violations before moving to a new county.
Deputies say that sexual offender Jorge Francisco Paz, 76, was warned before he moved to 1515 Corvette Ave. in Sebring that he had several registration violations he needed to clear up before he became a resident of Highlands County.
Paz, who was convicted in 1994 of lewd and lascivious assault on a child, told our Special Victims Unit he had lived for years in Miami-Dade County without having issues with not registering his information in a timely manner, as required.
“We told him that’s not how we do things here in Highlands County. Here, if you don’t follow the rules, you go to jail,” said Highlands County Sheriff’s Office.
He apparently thought the sheriff’s office was bluffing. But they were not.
Paz moved into his new home on Tuesday with four violations of his registration requirements still left unresolved. On Thursday, he was arrested and booked into the Highlands County Jail.
“As you can see by his mugshot, it didn’t seem to bother him too much,” said Highlands County Sheriff’s Office.
As he found out, the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit closely monitors the sexual offenders and predators in our county.
