A 33-year-old Florida man will spend the rest of his life in prison for a deadly shooting that occurred at a busy Naples bar and restaurant in 2021.

Following an investigation by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), Jason Nicholas Ortiz was sentenced Wednesday to life imprisonment for his role in the March 12, 2021, incident at Rusty’s Bar and Grill, located at 2700 Immokalee Road.

Ortiz was convicted of second-degree murder in September after a jury trial.

The incident unfolded around 9:40 p.m. when CCSO deputies responded to reports of an altercation with gunfire inside the establishment. Upon arrival, deputies discovered two men had been shot during the confrontation, and a third individual was injured while attempting to break up the fight.

The investigation revealed that Ortiz and the victim, who were co-workers, had argued outside the bar before the shooting.

The victim returned inside to speak with another co-worker, but Ortiz followed, drew a firearm, and shot the victim multiple times.

The victim was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Ortiz was also taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries and was arrested upon his release.
