Florida Man Crashes His $700,000 Supercar, That He Just Purchased, Into Palm Tree

A Florida man, “unfamiliar” with driving a stick shift, crashed his 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition sports car into a palm tree.

According to Road & Track, the driver, identified as 50-year-old Robert J. Guarini, said he lost control of the supercar while downshifting.

The man told police he was “unfamiliar” with driving a stick shift.

Guarini told R&T that the crash happened as he shifted up into second gear from first, not while downshifting, as the police report says.

“I don’t want people to think I was racing at 90 mph,” Guarini told R&T. “I was going 35 mph.”

According to Road & Track, the Ford GT was purchased in Palm Beach at a Barret-Jackson auction in April for $704,000.

Police say the car was not registered or insured when the crash occurred, Guarini claims the car was covered under an umbrella policy and that he just didn’t have the documentation available when the crash occurred.

The Heritage package was available only in 2006 and was installed on only 343 cars.
