Florida Man Charged With Murdering His Wife And Toddler

A Florida man who was hospitalized for an apparent drug overdose following the tragic deaths of his wife and toddler in Broward County has now been charged with their murders.

Jean Carlos Aponte, 40, is now in custody after police discovered his 38-year-old wife, Sara Ashley Gama, and 2-year-old son, Ethan Aponte, dead inside their Plantation home on Tuesday.

Around 12:00 pm on Tuesday, March 26, officers arrived at the home for a welfare check and discovered the mother and child inside.

Aponte was inside but unconscious due to a potential drug overdose. He was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Aponte faces two counts of first-degree murder and premeditated murder and, if convicted, faces the death penalty or life in prison.

According to CBS News, a judge ordered Aponte to undergo a mental health evaluation due to the alleged suicide attempt.
