A Florida man has been charged with the first-degree murder Wednesday of his girlfriend’s 13-year-old daughter, Madeline Soto.

The nightmare began on February 26th, when Madeline Soto was reported missing by her mother, Jennifer Soto. Jennifer had gone to pick her daughter up from school but was shocked to find her missing.

Frantic with worry, she immediately alerted the authorities, initiating a search for her teenage daughter.

Several days after Madeline’s disappearance, her lifeless body was discovered in a wooded area. The devastating news sent shockwaves through the community, leaving everyone in mourning. The investigation quickly led to the arrest of Stephan Sterns, the longtime boyfriend of Madeline’s mother.

Stephan Sterns has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Madeline Soto. Court records filed in Osceola County on Wednesday confirm this charge. The severity of the crime has prompted discussions about whether the death penalty will be sought in this case. State Attorney Andrew Bain has indicated that the decision is yet to be made. Meanwhile, Sterns is being held in jail without bond.

Prior to his arrest in connection with Madeline’s murder, Sterns was already facing numerous charges of sexual battery on a child under 12 and unlawful possession of child sex abuse material related to Madeline Soto. These charges had already been scheduled for trial, but a motion to delay the proceedings was filed by Sterns’ public defender, citing the need for more time to prepare the defense.

The Role of Jennifer Soto

While the focus of the investigation has primarily been on Stephan Sterns, questions have arisen about Jennifer Soto’s involvement in the tragic events.

Kissimmee Police Chief Betty Holland stated that Jennifer has cooperated fully with the detectives throughout the investigation. State Attorney Andrew Bain did not provide any indication of Jennifer’s suspected involvement in the crime.
