Police in Florida have arrested and charged Michael M. Wiseman for allegedly making social media threats against former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance.
The Jupiter Police Department announced the arrest on Friday, stating Wiseman faces charges of written threats to kill.
“After investigating the reports and the suspect’s Facebook account, JPD detectives found that Wiseman had made multiple threats against Trump and Vance, who earlier this week became the Republican nominees for President and Vice President, respectively. Threats were also made concerning bodily harm to members of the Trump and Vance families,” said Jupiter Police.
The arrest follows closely on the heels of an assassination attempt on Trump, which has raised questions about the Secret Service’s effectiveness and sparked concerns over rising political violence.
Jupiter Police reported that their investigation into Wiseman was conducted in collaboration with the Secret Service and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office. The investigation was initiated after receiving multiple online crime tips and direct concerns from local residents. A spokesperson for the Secret Service did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
