Police in Florida are searching for a man who attacked a woman at a Waffle House restaurant on Thursday morning.
Police in Daytona Beach responded to the Waffle House on Seabreeze Boulevard at about 4 a.m. Thursday in response to a stabbing.
Police released security footage showing the suspect and victim talking to each other in a booth.
Police say the suspect gets up and speaks with other patrons before returning to the booth where the woman was.
He then pulled a machete out of his pants and began to strike her multiple times, police said.
A witness heard a woman screaming and the suspect “slicing the victim with a machete,” according to an incident report.
The victim then called 911 and told police she “didn’t know” the man who had just stabbed her. The suspect then walked out of the front door, got into a red SUV, and left the area, according to police.
The woman was transported as a trauma alert to a local hospital.
