The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 25-year-old Joaun Wright for the armed trafficking of fentanyl.
Through investigative means, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Opioid Overdose Investigations (OOI) Section became aware of Wright’s activity as they followed up on non-fatal overdoses in the area.
“During this three-week operation, detectives were able to track him as the source of a non-fatal overdose here in Hillsborough County,” said HCSO.

Upon searching Wright’s home, detectives discovered over 40 grams of fentanyl, a loaded firearm, illegal prescription pills, and more than $7,000 in cash. There were also two children living in the home.
Wright was charged with the following:
- Armed Trafficking in Fentanyl
- Trafficking in Fentanyl (2x)
- Felon in Possession of Firearm
- Felon in Possession of Ammunition
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Several other drug-related charges
“We are all aware of the devastating effects of fentanyl on our community,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This highly potent drug is responsible for countless overdoses and seriously threatens public safety. I commend our deputies for arresting this dangerous criminal and their commitment to making Hillsborough County a safer place to raise a family.”

As seen in the image above, Wright used a Pringles can with a false bottom to conceal the drugs he was selling.
