A Brevard County man was arrested on Valentine’s Day following a bizarre carjacking attempt that involved him trying to pull a victim from their vehicle.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a disturbance call on Thursday, where they found Kaleb Henderson attempting to pull a victim from their vehicle. The victim had stopped in front of a residence to search for something in their car when Henderson approached, opened the car door, and grabbed them.

The victim’s screams alerted neighbors, who called 911 and intervened, preventing Henderson from further harming the victim.

“While love is in the air, especially on Valentine’s Day, and while love is known to make you do crazy things, in this case, I think this guy was just doing crazy things, period,” said Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Henderson, who admitted to drinking since 6 a.m. that morning, reportedly told deputies, “It’s bout to be mine,” when asked if he thought the vehicle was his.

“I’m not sure if Henderson understands exactly how things work and that you can’t just call ‘dibs’ on someone else’s property and actually take it,” Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey quipped.

He was arrested and booked into the Brevard County Jail on charges of carjacking without a firearm, battery, resisting without violence, and disorderly intoxication. He is being held without bond.

Sheriff Ivey commended the citizens who intervened and helped the victim, as well as Deputy Rory Moriarty for his handling of the situation.

“Just remember, if you want to mess around in Brevard County, you better believe you’re gonna find your way to the Lodge!” Sheriff Ivey warned.
