MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A Big Pine Key man is facing serious charges after allegedly driving recklessly with a 3-year-old child in the car while under the influence of drugs.
Michael John Demerjian, 36, was arrested on Saturday following multiple reports of a reckless driver in a GMC vehicle heading southbound on U.S. 1. Witnesses reported the vehicle swerving into the grass and oncoming traffic.

Deputies stopped Demerjian near Mile Marker 5 and observed signs of impairment. A K9 unit alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle, and a search revealed Clonazepam and Gabapentin pills, as well as a glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Demerjian was arrested and charged with:
- DUI
- DUI with a child passenger
- Child neglect
- Possession of a controlled substance without a prescription
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
