A 50-year-old Marathon, Florida, resident, Jason Brent Royal, was arrested on Thursday following an altercation in which he allegedly struck another man with a metal pipe, causing injury.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at approximately 3:44 a.m. in the 2500 block of the Overseas Highway regarding a suspicious person and an altercation.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that the 43-year-old victim was being treated for an arm injury at Fishermen’s Hospital.
The investigation revealed that Royal had struck the victim with a metal pipe, resulting in an elbow injury. Royal was subsequently taken into custody and charged with aggravated battery.

The victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
