A 23-year-old Florida man was captured by deputies and arrested after a night of violence and carjacking.
According to investigators, after an intense manhunt, deputies captured 23-year old Tavis White in a wooded area in Palm City just before 6 am Wednesday.
White, who is from Ft. Lauderdale, was rooming with the victim at a local shared housing facility for men near Port Salerno.
The victim told detectives that he was sleeping when White violently attacked him and began stabbing him multiple times in the head and neck area. The unprovoked attack didn’t stop there.
Tavis White then ran to a neighboring home and carjacked a man who was getting ready to go to work.
The suspect pulled that victim out of his truck, violently threw him to the ground then stole his vehicle.
Deputies pursued White in that stolen vehicle and performed a VIT maneuver, disabling it along SR 714 near the Cobblestone/Stuart West entrance.
White then fled on foot and attempted to carjack a passing motorist, but the driver of that vehicle was able to disengage and drive away.
Deputies captured White as he ran into a wooded area.
Despite his injures, the stabbing victim is expected to survive. The carjacking victim was treated on the scene and released. Sheriff’s Detectives are still searching for the attempted carjacking victim who was driving a dark color SUV, but was able to disengage from White and safely drive off.
Tavis White has a history of violence which includes past carjacking charges. He is now charged with attempted murder, carjacking, fleeing and eluding. He is being held at the Martin County Jail.
