A Florida man who shot his friend in the legs and reportedly pistol-whipped him in the head has been arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Deputies in Volusia County responded to the shooting on Desoto Avenue shortly after 4 a.m. Friday, as the victim was already being driven to the hospital.
The shooter, 38-year-old Thomas Arney, was still on the scene, deputies say.
Arney told deputies he and his friend had been drinking outside all night, then got into an argument that escalated.

Arney said his friend started breaking windows of vehicles and moved toward him aggressively before Arney fired two shots at his legs.
The victim didn’t cooperate with the investigation, but a witness told deputies the victim was not threatening Arney in any way before the shooting.
That witness said Arney shot the victim once in each leg and then stood over him and pistol-whipped him in the head.
Arney was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail later Friday, where he was in custody with a bond of $25,000.
