ST. PETERSBURG, FL. – St. Petersburg Police Department responded to a carjacking, attempt carjacking, and Home Invasion all committed by the same suspect in a case that began with additional crimes in Clearwater Police Department’s jurisdiction.
According to police, at 5:47 A.M. in St. Petersburg, Jamie David Smith, 32, crashed the vehicle he was driving into the sign of Park Street Baptist Church, 3901 Park Street N.
A good samaritan pulling a trailer with a boat, stopped to check if he was ok, which is when Smith carjacked the good samaritan’s vehicle and drove off with the boat and trailer in tow.
Smith later lost control, the boat and trailer detached, and he swerved to oncoming traffic.
Police say he then tried to carjack another vehicle, pulling on the door handle, but was unsuccessful.
Then he ran off and knocked on the door of a random house in the 5200 block of Dartmouth Ave. North. Smith forced his way inside.
After being surrounded by police, Smith was taken into custody without incident.
The homeowner is okay according to police.
Smith faces charges for hit and run, carjacking, attempted carjacking, and home invasion.
Smith also faces charges from Clearwater police for incidents before he drove to St. Pete.
