Florida Liveaboard Arrested For Throwing Hatchet Through Another Vessel’s Window

MARATHON, Fla. – A 32-year-old man living aboard a vessel in Boot Key Harbor was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly throwing a hatchet through another boat’s window while the occupant was inside.

Bertil James Haney faces charges of aggravated battery, throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vessel, and criminal mischief, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

According to reports, Haney rowed his dinghy to the victim’s vessel around 11 p.m. on Wednesday night.

He then threw a hatchet through one of the windows and struck another window with an oar. The victim narrowly escaped injury from the hatchet.

Two witnesses confirmed the victim’s account, leading to Haney’s arrest. The incident is currently under investigation, and Haney is being held at the Monroe County Jail.
