A joint House and Senate committee, the Joint Legislative Budget Commission, is scheduled to meet next week to review a long-range financial outlook for Florida.
State economists prepared the outlook, which will provide a detailed picture of the state’s financial health for the next three fiscal years, from 2025-2026 through 2027-2028.
A draft of the report indicates that projected spending is likely to outpace available general revenue funds starting in the 2026-2027 fiscal year.

The report also notes that historically high general revenue fund balances in recent years have allowed for significant investments in various sectors like the environment, education, and infrastructure.
The information in the financial outlook will play a critical role in guiding lawmakers as they make important decisions about spending and taxes in the coming years. The commission will also consider a series of budget adjustments for various agencies during its meeting on Sept. 6.
