A Florida man won’t be winning the “Landlord of The Year” award in 2023 after deputies say he locked his tenants in a makeshift bedroom in a garage and threatened to kill them.

WESH 2 first reported that 66-year-old Lawrence Cohen was arrested after deputies arrived at his home and found victims locked in the garage.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Deputies say the victims were able to dial 911 to explain the predicament, and dispatched deputies arrived on the scene.

According to WESH, deputies spoke to Cohen through the door of the residence, and he told investigators that he wanted the tenants out.

Deputies told the distraught landlord that they would walk the tenants out, but Cohen still refused to open the door.

According to investigators, a deputy kicked the door and demanded that Cohen place his hands behind his back, and the man shouted, “No!”

Deputies were forced to tase the man and place him in handcuffs.

The tenants were located in the garage and explained to investigators that the man threatened to “kill” or “stick” the victims.

66-year-old Cohen was arrested for resisting arrest and false imprisonment.
