A warrant service turned to a struggle Wednesday morning after deputies attempted to arrest a local man wanted for two felony warrants.

Anthony Petrillo, 31, was ultimately apprehended by a K9 after resisting arrest and being known as a violent offender.

Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies went to a residence on Avocado Boulevard in Bunnell Wednesday morning to serve a felony warrant. Petrillo was wanted for a Violation of Drug Probation for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Resisting Officers without Violence in 2020.

It was known that Petrillo can be a violent offender, as he had a history of violence, resisting, and weapon possession.

When deputies arrived to the residence, contact was made with a family member who advised Petrillo did not want to come outside. A K9 deputy made verbal commands into the home asking him to exit the residence, which he refused.

Petrillo finally exited the back door, made contact with deputies claiming he didn’t have a warrant, and then ran back into the home. Deputies kicked in the rear door as Petrillo attempted to run, then turned and charged at deputies. The FCSO K9 quickly apprehended him, he fell to the ground, rolled onto his stomach, and continued to resist arrest. After a struggle, Petrillo was eventually secured.

“This dirtbag continues to make bad decisions,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “K9 Axle quickly took a bite out of crime and put a quick end to his attempt to avoid arrest. He’s been in and out of our jail and has not learned that if you resist, be prepared to be bit!”

A known violent offender, Petrillo has a criminal history in Flagler dating back to 2020. He’s previously been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resist Officer with Violence, Aggravated Assault on an Officer, Possession of Fentanyl, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He also has been arrested throughout North and Central Florida for Grand Theft, Narcotics-related charges, and multiple felony Assault charges.

Petrillo is facing new charges for Resisting Officers without Violence, Escape, and Violation of Probation. He had two active felony warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He’s now residing at the “Green Roof Inn” on no bond.
