The Florida Supreme Court could publicly reprimand a judge in Florida for exhibiting bias against the State Attorney’s Office.

The state Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) recommended the reprimand for Orange County Judge Martha Adams following an investigation into her conduct. The JQC found that Adams displayed “biased, impatient, undignified, and discourteous behavior” towards the staff and management of the Ninth Circuit State Attorney’s Office, which covers Orange and Osceola counties.

According to the JQC, Adams made inappropriate comments that revealed her bias, stemming from her frustration with perceived administrative and procedural issues within the State Attorney’s Office. In one instance, she reportedly referred to an assistant state attorney as an “ass” in court.

Adams, who has served as a judge since 2007, has acknowledged her misconduct. The JQC investigates complaints against judges and makes recommendations to the Florida Supreme Court, which has the final say on disciplinary actions.

A public reprimand, if issued by the Supreme Court, would serve as a formal rebuke of Adams’ behavior and a reminder of the importance of judicial impartiality.
