A circuit judge in Florida could be reprimanded for actions deemed inappropriate by the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC).
According to documents filed with the Florida Supreme Court, Judge Stefanie Moon in Broward County faces potential disciplinary action for two separate incidents.
In January 2024, Judge Moon left a voicemail for an attorney requesting his participation on her re-election committee. When the attorney did not respond, Judge Moon brought up the issue during a subsequent court hearing, reminding the attorney that he had not returned her call.

The JQC found this action to be inappropriate and a violation of judicial canons, stating that it created concerns about potential bias and negative impacts on the attorney’s clients.
In a separate incident, Judge Moon contacted the therapist of a man involved in a case where his mental health was at issue. The therapist was a witness in the case, and the JQC determined that Judge Moon failed to disclose this “ex parte” communication to the parties, violating judicial canons.
Judge Moon has agreed to the JQC’s findings and accepted the recommended discipline, which is a reprimand. The Florida Supreme Court has the final authority on disciplinary matters concerning judges.
