Florida continues to see a steady, relatively low number of first-time unemployment claims, though notices filed with the state show some workers face layoffs in the coming months.

The U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday released a report that estimated 5,805 claims were filed in Florida during the week that ended April 27, down from 6,351 claims the previous week.

The state has averaged 6,189 claims over the past four weeks and 5,926 since the start of the year. Florida had a 3.2 percent unemployment rate in March.

Thursday’s estimate came after two companies filed layoff notices with the Florida Department of Commerce that will affect more than 200 workers.

Davidson Hospitality Group announced Tuesday the pending closure of the 633-room Wyndham Orlando Resort on International Drive, resulting in 167 layoffs starting June 29.

Meanwhile, Raven Transport Holding advised the Department of Commerce on Wednesday that it will lay off 83 drivers and staff members in Jacksonville starting June 30.

The Department of Commerce will release an April unemployment report on May 17.
