The number of initial unemployment claims in Florida remains low, with last week’s total below the average for this year.
The U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday released a report that estimated 5,126 claims were filed last week in Florida, down from 5,930 claims during the week that ended July 6.
Florida has averaged 5,907 claims over the past four weeks and 5,794 weekly claims this year.

Florida’s unemployment rate has held at 2.6 percent since the start of the year, with the state slated to release a June unemployment report on July 21.
Nationally, initial unemployment claims decreased by 12,000 last week to 237,000.
