The number of first-time unemployment claims in Florida remains relatively low, with an estimated 5,752 applications filed during the week that ended March 9, according to a report released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Last week’s total was down slightly from 5,799 claims filed during the week that ended March 2. The state has averaged 5,807 claims a week since the start of 2023.
Last Friday, the state Department of Commerce said Florida had a January unemployment rate of 3.1 percent, unchanged from a revised December rate.

The department will release a February report on March 22. Nationally, the February unemployment rate was 3.9 percent.
The Department of Labor estimated that 209,000 first-time unemployment claims were filed nationally last week, a decrease of 1,000 from the week that ended March 2.
