PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – FHP Troopers closed I-75 in both directions on Thursday due to a suspicious incident near SR-52.
All lanes of I-75 have been reopened as of 11:00 AM following the discovery of an item by FDOT Asset Contractors on the shoulder of the southbound I-75 exit ramp leading to SR-52, prompting the highway closure.
State of Florida and Tampa Police Department bomb squad experts responded to the incident location to render safe the item, which appeared to be a potential explosive device.
The item has been removed for further testing by State of Florida explosive experts.
Southbound traffic was diverted at Exit 293, and northbound traffic will be diverted at Exit 282. Traffic was prevented from entering I-75 at SR-52 (Exit 285).
