CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – A routine traffic stop in Citrus County has led to a significant drug and gun bust, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

On Friday around 6:15 pm, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper observed a Mercedes SUV traveling along SR-589 near Milepost 66 with illegally tinted windows. A subsequent traffic stop revealed a much more serious situation.

During a search of the vehicle, troopers discovered approximately 18.5 pounds of marijuana and a concealed 40mm Glock handgun.

The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Artha Hopkins of Homosassa, was arrested on drug and weapons charges.

Hopkins was transported to the Citrus County Jail to await further legal proceedings.
