Anglers along the Florida Gulf Coast are enjoying a mixed bag of fishing opportunities today. Warm temperatures and calm seas are providing favorable conditions for both inshore and offshore fishing.

Inshore:

  • Trout: Trout fishing remains strong, especially in the early morning and late afternoon around Fort DeSoto and other areas with good tidal flow. Live shrimp, DOA Shrimp, and DOA Deadly Combos are proving effective when drifting with the outgoing current.
  • Redfish: Redfish action is picking up, with anglers reporting success in shallow grass flats using artificial baits. Look for areas with good tidal movement and structure.
  • Snook: Snook are returning to the passes as they begin their summer spawn. Anglers are finding success using live bait and a variety of lures.

Offshore:

  • Snapper: Red snapper season is in full swing, with anglers reporting good catches in deeper waters. Live bait and vertical jigs are popular choices.
  • Grouper: Gag grouper are also biting well, particularly around wrecks and reefs. Live pinfish and frozen sardines are effective baits.
  • Pelagic: Keep an eye out for pelagic species like kingfish and mahi-mahi, especially when trolling offshore.

Tips and Reminders:

  • Stay hydrated: With warm temperatures, it’s crucial to drink plenty of water and wear protective clothing to avoid dehydration and sunburn.
  • Check regulations: Be sure to check the latest fishing regulations for size and bag limits before heading out.
  • Respect the resource: Practice catch-and-release whenever possible to ensure the sustainability of our fisheries.

Overall, fishing conditions in the Florida Gulf are looking good today. Whether you’re fishing inshore or offshore, there are plenty of opportunities to hook into some great fish. Get out there and enjoy the beautiful weather and productive fishing!
