Anglers along the Florida Gulf Coast are enjoying fantastic fall fishing as temperatures begin to cool and fish become more active.

The Redfish bite is particularly strong, with schools of these fish being reported in many areas.

Inshore Fishing:

  • Redfish: Redfish are the stars of the show right now, with schools of both slot and over-slot fish being found along the beaches, around mangrove islands, and on the flats. Live shrimp, cut bait, and artificial lures are all proving effective.
  • Snook: Snook fishing is also picking up, particularly around structures like bridges, docks, and jetties. Live bait is the preferred choice for targeting these fish.
  • Trout: Trout are being caught in good numbers on the grass flats, with topwater lures and soft plastics working well.
  • Other Species: Other inshore species like flounder, sheepshead, and black drum are also being caught, providing plenty of variety for anglers.

Offshore Fishing:

  • Bottom Fishing: Bottom fishing remains steady, with good catches of snapper, grouper, and triggerfish being reported. Live bait and cut bait are the most popular choices for bottom fishing.
  • Pelagic Fishing: Anglers venturing offshore are finding some blackfin tuna, amberjack, and dolphin. Trolling and live baiting are the primary techniques for targeting these fish.

Tips & Recommendations:

  • Focus on Redfish: With the Redfish bite being so strong, it’s a great time to target these fish. Look for schools in shallow water and use live shrimp or cut bait for the best results.
  • Fish Early & Late: The cooler temperatures in the mornings and evenings are making for more comfortable fishing and increased fish activity.
  • Check Regulations: Be sure to check the latest fishing regulations for your area, including size and bag limits for different species.

Remember: Fishing conditions can change quickly, so it’s always a good idea to check with local bait shops or fishing guides for the most up-to-date information.

Tight lines and good luck fishing on the Florida Gulf Coast!
