Inshore:
- Trout: Trout fishing remains good, particularly in the early mornings. Topwater lures and live shrimp are proving effective around grass flats with good water flow. Look for them in depths of 2-5 feet.
- Redfish: Redfish are on the move with the changing tides. Target them around mangroves during the incoming tide as they seek shade and ambush prey.
- Snook: Snook action is picking up. Live bait like pinfish or pilchards, as well as artificial lures, are producing catches. Focus your efforts around structures and inlets.
- Other Species: Expect to encounter a variety of other inshore species, including drum, flounder, and sheepshead.
Nearshore/Offshore:
- Amberjack, Snapper, and Grouper: Bottom fishing remains productive for these popular species. Live bait or cut bait on the bottom rigs should yield results.
- Pelagics: The offshore bite for pelagic species like marlin, tuna, and mahi-mahi is strong. Trolling or live baiting are recommended techniques.
- Gag Grouper: The gag grouper season is open in some areas, providing another exciting target for offshore anglers.
Specific Locations:
- Sarasota Bay: Anglers are reporting good catches of trout, redfish, and even some tarpon.
- Tampa Bay: The bay is alive with a variety of species, including snook, redfish, trout, and mackerel.
- Florida Keys: The Keys offer excellent fishing for mahi-mahi, marlin, tuna, and other offshore species.
