Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has expressed strong support for President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister as the next Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). DeSantis praised Chronister’s leadership and commitment to law enforcement, citing his role in key local and state initiatives.
“When we removed Soros-backed prosecutor Andrew Warren from office, nobody supported us more strongly than Sheriff Chad Chronister,” DeSantis said. “And when the deposed Soros prosecutor ran to reclaim the office this year, Sheriff Chronister led the opposition to that candidacy and helped ensure the election of tough-on-crime prosecutor Suzy Lopez. Hillsborough County is safer as a result.”
DeSantis highlighted Chronister’s dedication to public safety and his ability to deliver results, noting that his leadership has already had a measurable impact on reducing crime in Hillsborough County.

Looking ahead to Chronister’s potential leadership of the DEA, DeSantis emphasized the importance of addressing the ongoing fentanyl crisis and combating international drug cartels.
“I congratulate Chad on his nomination and look forward to him taking on the drug cartels on behalf of the American people,” DeSantis said, expressing confidence in Chronister’s ability to tackle the complex challenges facing the DEA.
Chronister’s nomination has drawn praise from law enforcement leaders across Florida and the nation. Known for his tough-on-crime stance and professional management of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Chronister is widely regarded as a strong choice to lead the DEA during a critical time in the fight against drug trafficking and opioid addiction.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd endorsed Chronister’s nomination, praising his leadership and experience and expressing confidence in his ability to excel in the critical role.
“I am totally excited about Sheriff Chronister’s nomination to be the DEA Administrator,” Judd said in a statement. “He is an experienced law enforcement administrator, and that’s exactly what you need in charge of law enforcement agencies. Sheriff Chronister runs a very professional Sheriff’s Office, and he does it very well.”

“He will keep people safe. He will directly attack fentanyl at its core—that’s in Mexico—and the precursor drugs that are coming in from China,” Judd said. “We’re fortunate to have an experienced law enforcement administrator in that position.”
If confirmed, Chronister will oversee a federal agency with both domestic and international responsibilities, working to curb the flow of illegal drugs into the United States and dismantle transnational criminal organizations.
