Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Attorney General Ashley Moody to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Marco Rubio, who recently assumed the role of Secretary of State under President Donald Trump’s administration. Moody, a seasoned prosecutor, circuit court judge, and two-term attorney general, will serve the remainder of Rubio’s term until a special election in 2026.
“This is a time for action in Washington, D.C.,” DeSantis announced during a press conference in Central Florida. “Ashley Moody has a proven track record of delivering results and defending the values that matter most to Floridians. She is exactly the leader we need in the Senate to support President Trump’s America First agenda and tackle the challenges facing our nation.”

Moody, known for her commitment to conservative principles and public safety, has been a prominent figure in Florida politics. During her tenure as attorney general, she has led efforts against human trafficking, the opioid epidemic, and federal overreach. DeSantis praised Moody’s steadfast dedication to fighting illegal immigration and her success in challenging federal policies detrimental to Florida.
“She has fought on every front — from protecting Florida’s borders to safeguarding the rights of our citizens,” DeSantis said. “She has delivered results, not rhetoric, and that’s what Floridians demand.”
Moody’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment, with pressing issues dominating the national conversation. DeSantis highlighted several priorities Moody will bring to the Senate:
- Immigration Reform: Moody has filed and won numerous lawsuits against the Biden administration’s border policies. DeSantis emphasized her unwavering commitment to securing the southern border and combatting the influx of fentanyl and other drugs into the U.S.
- Fiscal Responsibility: DeSantis pointed to Florida’s economic success as a model for Washington. “Ashley will be a champion for reducing federal bloat, eliminating wasteful spending, and restoring fiscal sanity in Congress,” he said.
- Defending Constitutional Principles: Moody’s judicial background and her advocacy for law and order position her to be a key voice in confirming federal judges and Supreme Court justices who adhere to constitutional principles.
- Combatting the ‘Woke Agenda’: DeSantis noted Moody’s role in fighting ideological overreach in education, government, and corporate America. “She has stood strong against woke ideologies that undermine our institutions and values,” he said.

In her remarks, Moody expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and outlined her commitment to Florida and the nation. “I will bring the same persistence, passion, and tenacity to the Senate that I have brought as attorney general,” she said. “This is not just a job — it’s a calling. I am ready to fight for the American people and support President Trump’s America First agenda from day one.”
Moody highlighted her faith, family, and judicial experience as guiding influences in her career. “As a mother, a former judge, and a public servant, I am deeply committed to protecting our communities, our freedoms, and our future,” she said.
Moody’s appointment marks a historic milestone as she transitions to her third branch of government. “I may be the only senator to have served in the judiciary, the executive branch, and now the legislative branch,” she noted. “I will bring those experiences with me to ensure we restore accountability, shrink the federal bureaucracy, and deliver for the American people.”

As Moody takes on her new role, she emphasized the urgency of the moment. “We may not have an opportunity like this for another generation,” she said. “The decisions we make now will determine whether we revive the American experiment or continue the status quo. I pledge to work tirelessly for Floridians and all Americans to secure a brighter future.”
DeSantis concluded by underscoring the importance of strong leadership in Washington. “Ashley Moody is not just the senator Florida needs — she is the senator America needs,” he said. “Together, we will deliver on the promises made to the American people and ensure our nation’s best days are still ahead.”
