Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis encouraged his counterpart in Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott, to stand firm in the face of an increasingly hostile Biden administration, which is now being urged to take control of the state’s National Guard units.
Florida’s Republican governor also denounced the U.S. Supreme Court for allowing President Joe Biden to prioritize the entry of massive waves of illegal immigrants over America’s national security and internal law and order.
“The Supreme Court has said the federal government has the purview over enforcing immigration law. That would make sense if Texas was trying to flout immigration law,” DeSantis noted. “In other words, if Texas was trying to open the border and the feds didn’t want it open, then I would totally understand” the court’s ruling on Monday.

The five-member majority, which included Republican-appointed Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett, declared the Department of Homeland Security could cut razor wire Abbott has ordered placed along the Rio Grande River to try to slow the flood of illegals.
“But what’s happening is the federal government is not enforcing the law. So Texas is having to stand up to defend its sovereignty and defend its people,” said DeSantis. “They have every right to do that.”
Continuing, DeSantis added, “I would stay the course.”
DeSantis also noted that since 2021, Florida law enforcement and National Guard personnel have rotated into Texas trying to assist that state’s authorities in preventing the border from overrun.
The governor also pointed out that, when he ran for president, one of his primary issues was to advocate for authorizing states to enforce federal immigration law.
“Why should a sheriff down there not be able to deport somebody if they catch them coming across the border,” he said. “It makes more sense. It’s a force multiplier.”

“They should defend their border, and I think that they have every right to hold their ground.”
Texas began doing as DeSantis advised almost as soon as the Supreme Court ruling was handed down.
The National Guard began installing more razor wire and “anti-climb” fencing.
The Supreme Court’s decision granted only temporary authority to the Biden administration to dismantle the barrier and will hear Biden’s appeal of two lower court rulings in favor of Texas’ right to protect itself and its people.
