The race for the Republican caucuses is heating up, with former President Trump maintaining a significant lead among GOP caucus attendees in Iowa.
According to a recent poll, Trump has a commanding 43% of likely GOP caucus attendees supporting him as their first-choice candidate. However, contenders like Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley are battling for second place, each garnering 16% of respondents listing them as their top candidate
As the frontrunner, former President Trump continues to enjoy a substantial lead among Republican caucus attendees.

The NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom survey reveals that 43% of likely GOP caucus attendees in Iowa have chosen Trump as their first-choice candidate.
This significant margin gives him a 27-point lead over his closest challengers, DeSantis and Haley, who are currently tied for second place with 16% of respondents supporting them.
The poll suggests that 27% of respondents listed DeSantis as their second choice, and an additional 25% stated that they are actively considering him. This indicates that DeSantis has the potential to challenge the frontrunner if he can continue to build his support base in the state.
Nikki Haley’s popularity in Iowa has seen a notable increase since August.
The survey highlights that she has gained 10 points, with 17% of respondents considering her as their second choice. Another 22% stated that they are actively considering her as a potential candidate. Haley’s rise in Iowa suggests that she could be a strong contender in the caucuses, particularly if she can further consolidate her support.
Former Vice President Mike Pence dropped out of the race after the survey was conducted. However, his votes were reallocated to the respondents’ second-choice candidates.

The survey revealed interesting insights into the minds of Iowa Republicans. While 41% of respondents said their minds are made up on their first-choice candidate, a majority of 54% indicated that they could still be persuaded to vote for someone else.
Trump’s supporters remain the most loyal, with 63% stating that their choice is set in stone and 37% indicating they could be persuaded. For DeSantis and Haley, 30% and 26% respectively, have firmly made up their minds.
