Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday signed a bill aimed at protecting students’ data. Under the measure (SB 662), websites and apps used by schools will be barred from engaging in “targeted advertising” to students.

Operators of websites and apps also will not be able to share, sell or rent student information or use data to “amass a profile” on a student.

The bill also deals with issues such as the amount of data that such companies can collect, mandating that they can compile “no more covered information than is reasonably necessary to operate” the websites and apps.
