Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday signed ten bills, including a measure that will lead to a monument at the Capitol Complex to mark the state’s history with the space industry.
The measure (HB 1189) will require the Department of Management Services and Space Florida to hold a contest for people to submit designs for the Florida Space Exploration Monument.
A selection committee will also be appointed. The department will have to set the cost and location for the monument by July 1, 2024.

A separate bill DeSantis signed last week (SB 2506) will lead to setting up a “Memorial Park” and expanding the footprint of the Capitol Complex.
The Elliot building, which is east of the Capitol, will be replaced with a park that will house planned memorials that have gone unbuilt over the past decade.
