Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told a crowd in Iowa on Wednesday that he would be the anti-Biden on illegal immigration.
“We need to restore a sense of normalcy to our communities,” the Florida Republican told the audience during his first major trip since announcing that he was running for president last week.
“It is not normal to have millions of illegal aliens pouring into communities all across our country, to have drugs pouring in across our country, because of the dereliction of duty of the commander in chief.”
“It is not normal to have inmates running the asylum,” he added.

DeSantis highlighted President Joe Biden’s impotence on policing the border by noting he would pursue some initiatives advocated or implemented by Biden’s predecessor, former President Donald Trump. He also took a shot at Republicans who talk tough on controlling illegal immigration but accomplish little.
“We will reverse his border and immigration policies,” said DeSantis.
“But I gotta say, though. I’ve been hearing about this border as a Republican my entire adult life, and Republicans have been going around saying they’re gonna do all this with (the) border, and do that on immigration, for years and years and years.”
“When I’m president, we will finally be the administration to bring this issue to its conclusion,” DeSantis said.
“We are gonna shut down the border. “We are going to build a border wall, we’re going to end mass migration, and we are going to hold the Mexican drug cartels accountable for the carnage they are causing in this country.”

In the proclamation, Biden noted past waves of immigrants to U.S. shores and their search for a better life and the American dream.
Yet he also praised policies that incentivize illegals to come here.
Biden cited President Ronald Reagan’s amnesty plan for nearly 3 million illegals in the mid-1980s. He also noted that President George W. Bush “pushed hard for comprehensive immigration reform,” which conservatives criticized as another amnesty program.
Biden also highlighted his own amnesty program, pointing out that he had sent Congress a bill on his first day in office that created a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, or illegals who were brought to America as children. Biden further noted that he had proposed providing the Dreamers taxpayer-funded health care through
