Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis continued to rip on former President Donald Trump for his Biden-like “basement” campaign
DeSantis War Room, the Republican governor’s rapid response account on X, formerly Twitter, released a thread on Trump’s recent statements and argued they showed why Trump’s handlers really don’t want him on the debate stage with his primary opponents.
Those remarks included:
- Trump calling Hamas “very smart” in a speech in Florida after the terrorist group launched attacks that killed at least 1,300 Israeils, wounded thousands more and took scores, especially women, as hostages.
- Trump telling conservative journalist John Solomon that he had a “very good” relationship with communist China and that the Chinese Communist Party “may very well turn out to be fine,” if the U.S. pursues a “de-coupling” policy that would make America more independent of trading with China.
- Trump retreating from his main 2016 pitch about getting Mexico to fund construction of a border wall. In a speech last month, he said that “no legal mechanism” existed for him to force Mexico to do that, and then called his critics on that point “lunatics.”
- Trump telling NBC News that it was a “terrible thing” that DeSantis enacted a ban on abortion after six weeks of pregnancy.
- Trump confusing President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama in a recent speech and in an interview last week with Fox News.
- Trump saying “Ummmm” and pausing for several seconds when during an interview last month conservative journalist Megyn Kelly asked him if a man can become a woman.
“Now ask yourself this,” DeSantis War Room said in the last post, “do you think Trump’s team wants him saying these things on the debate stage?”

New Trump Polling In Swing States
But, former President Donald Trump is beating out President Joe Biden in Wisconsin, a critical battleground state, following a string of comparable results in other significant swing states.
According to an Emerson College survey, Trump is leading Biden 42% to 40% among Wisconsin voters, with 11% selecting someone else and 8% staying undecided. The study was conducted after Trump beat Biden in several other recent battleground state polls, including those conducted in Pennsylvania and Michigan.
“In a state Biden won in 2020 by less than a percentage point, and Trump won in 2016 by nearly the same margin, this poll suggests a similar trajectory for 2024,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling.

Trump leads Biden by 42% to 35% in Michigan, according to a survey by Marketing Resource Group.
Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan are the three battleground states that Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016 but lost to Biden in 2020.
According to recent polls, Trump is also ahead of Biden in national surveys and a number of other crucial swing states, including Georgia and North Carolina.
In a mid-September Reuters/Ipsos poll, Trump leads Biden 41% to 35% in the states with the closest margins of victory in 2020: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
