Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says that when he becomes president, he will work with states to shut down illegal crossings at the border and will deport all the illegal immigrants who entered America under President Joe Biden’s watch.

“They’re all going back,” DeSantis told conservative commentator Glenn Beck in a recent interview.

DeSantis gave Beck a wide-ranging interview on his candidacy and plans for his administration if he prevails in 2024.

But he made it clear that one of Biden’s greatest failures is on the border, and that states, especially Arizona and Texas, need more support to shore up their entry points.

“When I’m president, we’ve already said, we are going to unleash the states; they’re going to be equal partners with enforcing immigration law,” the Republican governor told Beck. “If someone comes across the river illegally in Texas, Texas should be able to send them back.”

“Why do we need to end up in this big process where people are going to court and all this other stuff? It’s absurd. So they should be able to do it.”

DeSantis acknowledged that under current conditions the states would face the ire of Biden’s Justice Department for seeking to enforce laws Biden won’t. As one example, recently reported by the Tampa Free Press, Arizona had to remove shipping containers it had installed along the border in order to get the Justice Department to drop its lawsuit against the state over the barriers.

“We’ll be an administration that’s gonna work hand-in-hand with the states to secure our country,” said DeSantis. “They’re a force multiplier for the federal government.”

“People say it’s the sole federal responsibility — yeah, if we have strong border policy, a state can’t let people in illegally, of course — but if we have a policy, and it’s not being enforced fully, why should the states not do it? They should absolutely be able to enforce the law,” he added.

“We’ll make that happen.”

Beck noted that Biden, during his first two years in office, allowed inot the country an illegal immigrant population that was bigger than 15 states.

In response, DeSantis replied that on his first day he would declare the border a national emergency, and he would ramp up deportations.

“When I get in, they’re all going back,” DeSantis said.

When Beck asked how he would do that, DeSantis noted that the Biden administration is already “registering” people who admit that they are entering illegally. Such records would be a source of information for tracking them down and sending them back.

“I want a wall. I want all that. But if you aren’t going to have a sanction for coming illegally, then you’re going to continue to deal with this problem,” he added. And he said he would work with the states to apply such sanctions.

But Biden’s policies have already done “incalculable” damage, and deportation is the only answer, said DeSantis.

He noted that Russians, Chinese and Iranians have been among those who have crossed into America illegally, in addition to fears that Venezuela simply opened its prisons and sent the inmates north to America.

“We’ll do a big repatriation, and then stop the insane policies,” DeSantis said.

“Yeah, we’ll do the wall, but you shouldn’t even entertain these claims where you’re giving them a court date in three years. Just have them wait on the other side of the border. That’s what we gotta do.”
